SCHOOL LEAVERS LOOK FOR QUALITY EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
WITH thousands of young people across the county about to leave full-time education later this month, staff at Connexions Northamptonshire are working hard to help them plan what they are going to do next.
Personal Advisers from the Connexions Service are continuing to visit schools throughout Northamptonshire, in advance of this year’s official school leaving date on June 27, advising 16 to 19 year olds about the apprenticeship and employment opportunities available to them.
Almost 1000 young people have already shown an interest in finding work-based learning such as Apprenticeships in Northamptonshire, while staff at the Connexions Central Vacancy Unit (CVU), which works with local employers and offers a free vacancy service to market vacancies to young people aged 16-19, have also been working hard, speaking with employers to identify possible vacancies for young people.
Connexions Northamptonshire’s CVU Manager, Kerry Senatore, said: “We currently have some fantastic opportunities suitable for school leavers. Apprenticeships can offer a good progression route for young people whilst working and earning at the same time. Funding is also available to employers to assist with training costs and can be an ideal way to bring new fresh skills and talent into their business.”
Another huge benefit to young people and employers has been the launch of Connexions’ new jobs website, www.Jobs4You2org.uk.
Launched last year, the interactive site attracts an average of 2000 hits each month and has meant vacancies are advertised live within an hour of Connexions being notified. Young people can view full job details and make their own individual match of suitable jobs.
Connexions free vacancy service means each vacancy will be matched to the young work seekers on the database. Vacancy details will be e-mailed or posted to young people’s homes, advertised on the Connexions website and displayed in one of the local Connexions Access Points around the county. Any employers who would like more information can call 01604 614939 or e-mail cvu@connexions-northamptonshire.org.uk.
