Kudos - does it work?
By Danny Chevolleau - Personal Adviser at Connexions Wellingborough.
Recently
whilst on duty I assisted a young person, Scott (pictured right), who
wanted to put together a CV. Whilst speaking about jobs and careers
I was surprised by just how clear he was about where he wanted to be,
why, his strengths, abilities and comfort zone.
During our discussion Scott informed me that he has been working in banking for the past 18 months. He also informed me that that on leaving school he had started an apprenticeship in carpentry but had left after a few months because he felt it was boring.
Following this he accessed Connexions Wellingborough looking for guidance as to what to do next. He was advised to use the KUDOS program to aid his decision making. After working through KUDOS the number one occupation, based on Scott’s answers, was a career in banking. Scott then thought about this and as he was always good at maths and interested in finance he agreed with this recommendation and through Connexions applied for some banking positions – one of which resulted in his current employment.
Scott started as a Cashier then moved onto Accounts and is now a Financial Adviser for small and medium sized business accounts.
Scott would now like to progress to working on larger accounts and for this he will need to possibly move to London.
So although KUDOS may not get it right for all – for Scott it was just the ticket!
