YOUNG PEOPLE ASKED TO VOTE IN ELECTIONS
TEENAGERS throughout Northamptonshire can have their say in
elections being held later this month.
Every young person, aged between 13 and 19, across the county can vote
online for the person they would most like to represent them in the
UK Youth Parliament.
Thirty eight young people are standing for election, representing seven
districts across Northamptonshire. From these four Members of Youth
Parliament and four Deputy Members will be elected.

The process, facilitated by Connexions Northamptonshire’s Youth
Involvement Team, is supported by organisations that work with young
people as well as schools from across the county. This involves young
people applying, attending training, writing and delivering their speech
through a hustings style situation and developing an election campaign.
Sarah Hillier, Senior Youth Involvement Worker at Connexions Northamptonshire
said: “Young people often say they are not listened to, this is
their opportunity to use their voice by voting for the Member of Youth
Parliament they want to represent their area”.
To vote, visit www.activenorthants.co.uk
between 9am on Monday 18th February and closes
at 5pm on Friday 22nd February.
Young people can vote anywhere in the county that has Internet access
including all Libraries and Connexions Access Points.
The results will be announced at an Announcements and Celebration Evening,
taking place at Northampton’s Guildhall on Tuesday 26th February
at 6:00pm. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to meet with
their local MP and plan their work as a Member of UK Youth Parliament
(MYP). All young people who stood for election will receive recognition.
