Making Choices in Year 11

Coping with College and Training

Help with making your decisions

Remember, before you finally decide, it is important to discuss all the choices with:

  • your Connexions Choices Adviser;
  • your form tutor or personal tutor; and
  • your parents and carers.

They will all help you make the decision that is best for you.

Your institution will also support you through their careers programme (PSHE).

You can call our Freephone number on 0800 73 13 2 19 (choose option 1), or email us at: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it

It's Your Choice!

You are not alone in making these decisions; everyone in Year 11 is going through the same process.

The main choices available to you are:

Get more qualifications

  • At school.
  • At a sixth-form college.
  • At a further education college.

Train for a job or start work

  • Apprenticeship.
  • e2e. (entry to employment)
  • Work.
  • Self-employment.

Work experience

  • Spend a week or two in a real work situation.

Volunteering

  • Explore different job areas.
  • Learn a new skill.
  • Help people.
  • Take time to decide what you want to do next.

Study abroad

  • Experience another country.

I don't know what I want to do!

  • Boost your confidence.
  • Get motivated!

You don't have to make these decisions on your own...

  • Talk to your Connexions Choices Adviser.
  • Discuss your options with your teacher.
  • Talk to friends and family.

Look in your school Connexions library for more information.

Publications

Your school will be producing a booklet about the options you can choose from. The Connexions Fact File for year 11 will also help:

There will also be events and open days/evenings  at your local schools and colleges for you and your parents and carers to find out more. Find out when these are by visiting the Xplore Progress  website. This will also list all of the choices available in your area and you can then make your applications.
