Finance for Education

Unless you attend a fee paying school education between 16 and 18 is free. However there may be some costs for things such as books, equipment and trips. If your family is on a low income you can apply for a school access fund. Contact either the school or your local LEA to find out how to apply.

Information about the Educational Grants Advisory Service

The Educational Grants Advisory Service (EGAS) was established in 1962 to offer students, especially disadvantaged students, expert guidance and advice to enable them to secure funding for education and training.

EGAS provides information and advice on funding for post-16 education, enabling individuals to gain access to education to improve their quality of life and employment opportunities.

EGAS operates a telephone advice line on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Experienced student advisers are available to answer questions on statutory and non-statutory funding sources for post-16 education.
