Volunteering
What is volunteering?
How about: Giving time willingly to help others; to help improve the community in which you live and work, and to gain personal satisfaction and acheivement? And the benefits?
Just a few of the many are: valuable work experience, getting into a work routine, gaining qualifications, meeting new people, getting out of the house, adding to your CV and enjoying what you do and feeling that you are benefitting from doing that particular role. You can feel a valued part of that organisation and feel appreciated.Types of volunteering work Examples are:
- Charity shop work eg Oxfam, Marie Curie
- Advice work eg Welfare rights, CAB
- Counselling work eg Solveit, CAN, Victim Support
- Working with animals eg RSPCA
- Conservation and practical work eg BTCV, National Trust

Millennium Volunteers Northamptonshire
Young people often think that volunteering must be boring; you don't get paid for it and it's all about working with old people! Well, if that's what you think, think again because MV can offer fantastic volunteering opportunities for any 16 to 24 year old. You can build on what you're into; gaining skills for your future and doing things that really interest you such as sport, fashion, music, d.j.ing, working with people, art and design or anything else that takes your imagination. Ok, you don't get paid for it, but the wealth of experience for your CV, friendship, training, skills development and expanded opportunities is a real investment in your future. And you gain nationally recognised Awards! The Millennium Volunteer project is a national project, run locally through the Centre for Children and Youth at the University of Northampton. The Northamptonshire Millennium Volunteer Project aims to encourage 16 to 24 year olds to develop their personal and employability skills while benefiting and being involved in their communities.
